Chapter 2: Getting Traffic to Your Website 

Section 12: Social Media Networks

Social networks like the exploding site myspace.com and facebook.com are powerful ways to generate traffic to your website. Just like youtube videos, when done properly you can get a tremendous traffic flow just about instantly. Joe Vitale used a couple social networks to get 20,000 additional visitors in the span of just a couple days! People don’t really realize how big this is: facebook gets nearly the same amount of traffic that google itself does, and youtube gets DOUBLE the traffic. I’ve heard stories about people getting FIRST PAGE results in google within hours! Think about that.

As with all methods, you absolutely want to avoid "spammy" types of activities. The key here is doing a "two step". DON’T promote directly. Instead, have a link to your site in your profile, and casually mention when you have a new, interesting blog or article post.

I am studying and implementing these methods myself at this point, I will write more about this soon. One thing that I want to note though, to underline the importance of this, is that Facebook has nearly as many views per day as google does, and last year Myspace had MORE, with Youtube getting DOUBLE the visitors that google does! Many people have heard about how "web 2.0" is changing things, but most people don’t realize how BIG this really is. And almost no one is using this appropriately at this point! The market is very much wide-open and growing at an unbelievable pace, but the "low lying fruit" is going to likely be gone in about 12 - 18 months. If we utilize this correctly, we can create a HUGE advantage for ourselves!
