SEO – The forgotten art of Search Engine Optimization
SEO: The ugly step-sister?
The way I break down internet marketing is in 3 major components:
1. Paid (biggest example is pay per click, but there are plenty of others)
2. Viral content (ie, make content people like, all social media marketing fits in here)
3. Computer-friendly content (ie, make your content more easily findable by getting search engines to like it. The biggest example here is plain old SEO, but more and more this is involving social media elements, the biggest of which is video. Video SEO is going to become a whole industry in its own right.)
Another way to state this is: PPC, Social Media, and SEO.
PPC has been promoted for many years as the most reliable and effective way to build a network marketing business online, and it certainly is a POWERFUL strategy to master. Over the last year or two, just about EVERY marketing strategy that has been promoted for network marketers has been about social media. Again, another incredible strategy to master here. But, this leaves good old-fashioned SEO out of the spotlight and out of people’s strategies. (Those that do have a strategy, that is. Many MLMers simply try a random thing here and a random thing there, see what sticks, and quit after a couple weeks without giving anything a chance to work.)
SEO can produce MASSIVE dividends, but it does take some time and CONSISTENT effort. Making a squidoo page or two, writing an article, and pointing them to a blog with 2 posts just ISN’T going to cut it! Rather, you need to have a full gameplan in place: strategic keywords to go after, content production strategy, linking strategy, and analysis strategy to monitor and build upon what is working.
I will be releasing a (free) "SEO Expert Blueprint" shortly that not only outlines best practices, basic set-ups, and key strategies, but also outlines a daily/weekly/monthly action plan that helps you to IMPLEMENT this knowledge. Someone who gets this only half right but takes action, vs someone who does things perfectly but only does them sporadically WILL get better rankings, more traffic, and more results, hands down.
(Be sure to get on my e-mail list for an update on when that blueprint is ready. I will also cover PPC and at least 3 separate Social Media Marketing Blueprints to go along with the SEO information, for a complete gameplan on creating your online marketing machine.)
Some key points with you now, and a special offer for you (e-mail me for more info):
1.) 10% of search ranking is dependent on on-page factors and roughly 90% depends on off-page factors. So, do your basic setup correctly, and then follow a consistent strategy for off-page factors.
2.) On-page factors to focus on: Title tag, internal linking structure (big one that people usually miss, I’ll cover this in detail), and sprinkle your targeted keywords (at most 3 per page) and a couple synonyms in a couple times. Note that keyword density is NOT really a big factor anymore. Also, having a video is definitely going to be a plus for that page, especially moving forward.
3.) Off-page factors rule the rankings. The factors that matter here are: quality of links (especially in Google), quantity of links (especially for Yahoo), and the anchor text itself (the blue, underlined text that is clickable and leads to your webpage. So, where to get links?
- Article Directories (focus mostly on www.ezinearticles.com – and FOLLOW THEIR RULES CLOSELY. Write 10 by-the-book articles and you’ll qualify for speed placement after that.)
- Directories (doesn’t have a huge impact, but can help to get alot of links. Do this automatically from a place link Directorymaximizer.com for $14 for 100 links.)
- Social Bookmarks (be careful with this, don’t spam the social bookmarks, as this can get you banned from BOTH the bookmarks AND get penalties in Google.)
- Blog and Forum commenting – use a service like fast-blog finder to find do-follow blogs that have decent page rank, personally go and place a REAL comment that adds value (or outsource this) and you’ll definitely notice a boost in rankings.
- Arrange links from other sites or blogs by personally contacting them. This is old school but can still be beneficial. You may want to outsource this also.
- Social Content sites – www.hubpages.com is my favorite, but also use www.squidoo.com, www.zimbio.com, www.weebly.com, www.wetpaint.com, www.wordpress.com, and there are others that I will list in my report (including a secret source that adds GREAT link power that most people don’t know about). Don’t foget to ALSO build links to these sites.
- Jeez, build links to THOSE sites too? That’s an awful lot of link building, isn’t it? YES, it is if you do it all yourself. That is why you MUST outsource some of this work. That is where I can definitely help out, here is an offer to you:
I have access to a network that can provide links to (quality, white-hat) websites that are permanent, one-way, and have the anchor text that you want. This is a great way to build links automatically to your secondary (squidoo-like) pages as well as the home page of your domain and interior pages as well (which should be roughly a 50/50 split by the way.)
E-mail me, and I will fill you in on more details and help you start building your business.
Talk soon,
Mike

With the change in Squidoo’s recent policy I am sure Squidoo will bounce back. As they wanted to clear the junk lenses and will improve the quality by removing spam lenses.
Lets hope for the best.

It pays to remember what your goal is, though: You’re trying to get more traffic to your page. If you can get a link from another site that will give you more traffic to your site (even if it doesn’t help your search engine rankings) then it’s a good link! In some ways it can even be better traffic, particularly if the other site is relevant to your site.
