Perry Marshall and The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords
Perry Marshall is, like Mike Dillard, a STELLAR writer. You really need to be on his list as well, he always has a sharp, utilitarian mindset to espouse. Read his stuff, and pay attention! You can get on his list here.
The two most critical things I picked up from Perry’s writings (other than obviously learning about adwords) are:
- Develop and perfect your sales funnel
-and a quote: "Be more of who you are and find the people in the world who want that."
That quote followed a description of a series of his business failures, before finally having some success, then going on to tremendous business success. He attributes it to finding a business in which his natural skills of writing, and being technically oriented were assets rather than liabilities. His Definitive Guide to Google Adwords, and subsequent consulting business, also allowed him to be positioned as a problem-solver, rather than a "peddler" as in his previous sales experience.
How refreshing for him, and what a take-away for us!
The first point there is critical to understand as well, particularly as internet marketing "grows up" and becomes increasingly more competitive. If you are able to stay in contact with customers and potential customers, and offer a range of products and services that can benefit them, each person becomes more valuable to you. If you are competing against businesses that are not as developed (and therefore make less per contact than you do), you have a HUGE advantage: you can afford to pay more to reach those people than anyone else.
That understanding is what prompted me to expand and broaden my business, while at the same time allowing me to capitalize on more of my natural abilities as well. I now view myself as a home-business consultant, that can help people pursuing the dream of working from home, through a number of different routes. As opposed to simply a distributor for a network marketing company, with one and only one thing to offer. It’s a powerful distinction.
If you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, and plan on doing anything with pay per click advertising, you should absolutely pick up a copy of Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide to Adwords. You can get that for just $30 now, absolutely worth it.
