Best Home Based Business Choice

How do you go about picking the best home-based business for you?

First off, you need to determine exactly where you want to get to. And I don’t mean write down a list of affirmations that you are supposed to repeat over and over again. I’m talking about really creating a vision for yourself, based on your own passions and what really drives YOU.

It is a scary thing to do at first, because so many of us have been worn down by every day life, accumulating responsibilities, and that little (or sometimes loud) nagging and negative voice telling us we don’t deserve what we dream about for one reason or another. We have put our true dreams on the back shelf, and frankly forgotten about them. Go ahead now and dust those off, without prejudging or coming up with reasons why you can’t have them. Just pretend that you can have anything you want, live the life that you want.

And, in many cases this won’t just be physical "things" that we are taught by society that we want. At our core, we don’t care about those things at all, what we REALLY want are how those things make us FEEL. So, when you are creating this vision, focus on how you want to feel, the things you want to be doing and experiencing, and the people you want to be doing this with.

Another mistake we all make is to think that we need to HAVE the things that we want, in order to DO the things that we want, in order to BE the person that we want to be. In fact, we really have the equation backwards! We really need to BE the person we want to become NOW, and then DO the things that that person would do, then and only then will we HAVE the things we want to have.

So, another way to get to that perfect life vision is to ask ourselves:  WHO do I want to be? What would that perfect me be like? How would I be thinking? How would I be interacting with family, friends, and strangers? What would I be doing? Who would I be doing it with? Where would I be living? What things would I have?

Does this seem quite unrelated to picking a home-based business? It probably does, but that is because most of us think backwards for some reason! (Myself included.) If we create a vision for our lives FIRST, based on who we want to become and what we are passionate about, creating a home-based business income stream will be a pleasure in and of itself, and something that we will be DRIVEN to do. That is much better than starting all of this from a fearful state of mind: I NEED to be making $X  per month, starting RIGHT NOW. Then the questions become, what will get me there the quickest way possible? And then, we expose ourselves to all kinds of business ideas that are either not even legitimate in the first place (ie, thinly veiled scams) or legitmate businesses that we really don’t care about.

Once you have this vision in your mind, you can work backwards from that and think about timelines, write down your final income goal and intermediate goals. THEN, with your vision, passion, and goals in place, start thinking about what type of home based business will fit in with your core values, vision, and passions. (And, a passion doesn’t have to be something you are already an expert in. It can be something that you enjoy doing or learning, know something about, and would like to learn more about.)
