Google Adwords: 8 Quick Tips

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Here are some quick but helpful tips in getting the most out of using google adwords:

1. Write attractive ads - Aim to be suprising, shocking, or controversial if possible, and target a click through rate of 1% or higher. (But, ALWAYS keep your promises and don’t mislead in your ads, it WILL catch up with you)

2.Bid High initially and control costs through your daily budget - This will help get initial exposure of your ad while you establish your click through rate (CTR). Over a couple days you can significantly lower your bids while still maintaining high rankings.

3. Deliver on your promises - This is important: have a landing page that matches and completes your ad, while still compelling further action. Aim to keep people on your site, in order to establish a high Quality Score, which will keep costs low over the long-term.

4. Have a RELEVANT Landing page - have a theme that is tightly matched to your keywords and ads. Use keywords and synonyms of your keywords on the landing page.

5. Make sure your landing page loads fast - Keeps visitors from getting frustrated and leaving quickly

6. Move away from traditional "squeeze pages" - Don’t make opt-ing in to a newsletter the ONLY way to leave the page (people can still hit their back button). Have a couple other useful links on the landing page (you can still monetize the links in one way or another though.)

7. Keep visitors on your page - Best way to do this is USE VIDEO. It allows you to connect deeply and quickly, convey alot of useful information quickly, AND keeps people on your site.

8. Establish a good history with google - this will go a long way to keeping costs down over the long run. Follow sound principles of always focusing on adding value to your visitors, and not relying on tricks. Tricks may work in the short term but they NEVER will in the long run. Remember: GOOGLE IS SMARTER THAN YOU ARE!!
